It is also evident that all temporary states must eventually give way to That which is eternal and abiding. A friend, Robert Bays, likes to relate the following story of the early life of the spiritual teacher, H. W. L. Poonja or "Papaji," to make this point: A devotee of Krishna,
(Papaji) reported his blissful and ecstatic experiences through visions
of Krishna to the great sage, Ramana Maharshi. Of course, temporary states do have transformational value. These experiences eventually give rise to ever deepening awareness. Nonetheless, actual awakening is the awakening from identification with all that is temporary in favor of Eternal and Unchanging Truth. Consciousness is now awakening in form on earth. This awakening can only ever occur in the non-linear Now. The words of Emma Curtis Hopkins, from The Radiant I AM, are exquisite pointers to this waking up: But who has told himself that all the objects he beholds and all their movements, also, are but projections of his own judgment? He seems always to be a learner and a seeker, till at the center of his consciousness, the fact is suddenly proclaimed that he, himself, produced the world, as it appears.... I have let people and objects and activities come toward me and impinge upon me, till I have been over-piled and mountain-covered with thoughts. But now I know that I AM.... The non-linear Truth of Being is always already true Now, and by Grace and through the mercy of a Love beyond conditions, this Truth shines into our self-imposed prisons and liberates us, time and time again, until the end of time and the end of identification with the story of me. In order to report the Truth, one must report honestly. Over the last five years, synchronicities and lapses into unawareness have continued; heightened states of consciousness and contractions have occured, as well. Uninterrupted awakening, as described by those who seem likely to be expressing it, is not the case for this author. Of course, there is no point in being overly concerned about that. Truth moves to awaken, and it is Truth that is the eternal call and promise behind the words, "Return unto me, and I will return unto thee." ....
